When Ducati announced the Ducati Desmosedici RR in 2004 there was a degree of sceptism that it really would present a road legal Moto GP bike for public sale. These doubts were confounded when finally in 2006 the production RR broke cover at the World Ducati Weekend to an expectant crowd of Ducatisti. The bike was more or less indentical to it's track sibling with the same 82mm bore and 42.56mm stroke as the GP bike, with the twin-pulse firing order and desmodromic valve actuation and gear-driven cams. The motor came with sand cast cases, dripping with titanium parts, clothed in magnesium engine covers and cases. Gases from this exotic motor were expelled from the trademark underseat exhaust with trick coatings from F1 to prevent the seat unit melting.
The result of the exotic engine specification was a heady 200 BHP delivered at 13,800 rpm with a unique spine-tingling soundtrack synonymous with the "long bang" engine architecture. The chassis was a tubular steel hybrid with the engine as a stressed member and each frame tube was of a different thickness and diameter specific to the load requirements of that element of the frame. Forged magnesium Marchesinis were a first time feature on Ducati road bike and the Ohlins supplied dampers and forks and these were the highest spec available.
Despite the exotic spec of the engine - the de-tuned Moto GP is remarkably tractable with linear serious drive all the way up to the 14,000 rpm red line - with perhaps a noticeable increase at 10,000 rpm as the motor comes on cam. The Desmosedici RR has no traction control, abs or any other rider aids, but it's sheer tractability mean you can easily ride this bike to the shops and the sense of occasion is on a different level to riding the latest vanilla superbike...
This particular bike has covered a mere 900 miles from new and received regular maintenance from Ducati gurus - Ray Petty Meccannica and has featured in their showroom and at other promotional events as a star attraction.
Probably the most desirable Ducati road bike made - ready to use on road or track or simple admire as a piece of art.
